Amateur Drama Queen in Training
I barely left the house today. I am playing catch up with all my current client projects so time is scarce. I did venture out late at night to get some air and calm myself with the sound of the sea. It was lovely, albeit a little chilly. But spring is definitely here!
Fiestas are magical times in Nerja. Their attachments to fiestas and Carnivals, and the still remaining community spirit, is just one of many reasons I continue to love this country so very much. Today´s carnival was magical – great fun and something not to be missed. It is a pity those Brits I heard complaining about the money spent on the Carnival realise celebration is more important during times of depression, not less. I hope it is a tradition Spain never leaves behind…
One of the most wonderful things about winter in Spain is quite often, when one feels cold indoors, you can venture outside during the afternoon and make like a lizard. I felt a little pang of sadness as I looked at everyones snow scenes until I went out for my afternoon walk with the JRT. The sun was shining and it was almost warm enough to do a little light sunbathing. But there, up in the mountains surrounding Nerja, was the snow. How fabulous is Andalucia? Lovely and warm here in our Coastal town – snow in the mountains just behind us!

Saturday night, just past 11pm, I suddenly realised I had not taken my camera out as I had planned to for SatScenes. The street was devoid of all life, fairly usual during the cold winter months at night, but come summer these streets with be heaving with people just going out…

Birthday Cake? Who wants Birthday Cake when they can have Roscon de Reyes! My first SatScenes of 2013 features images of my beautiful and irresistible Roscon filled with Crema de Trufa (Chocolate flavoured Cream) and Nata (Whipped Cream)
This Christmas we decided to celebrate the holiday season by bringing back and re-creating a favourite from my youth – Retro Sherry Trifle – based on an old family recipe. Made with copious amounts of black cherries, sherry, real custard (you will never find Bird’s Custard in our house) and freshly whipped cream. The whole thing is topped off with a crushed Cadbury’s Flake. Its a messy dessert but it really takes me back.
The Poinsettia can be seen all over the towns of spain and are commonplace in Spanish homes at this time of year. I love their vibrant red colours and so this weekend we bought one – knowing full well of course I will manage to kill the poor thing off fairly quickly. Green fingered I may be but I can never manage to persuade these plants to live more than a few days over the Christmas period…

Coffee overload at my favourite restaurant here in Nerja. Black coffee poured over ice with a shot of Tia Nadal (coffee liqueur ).
I love my current home, noise aside. If I look up the street I see a vast array of mountains. If I look down I can see the sea – well, usually, today it was shrouded in mist!
