Our “Tronco de Navidad”, our pudding for today. Its filled with a personal favourite of mine – crema de trufa. Yum!
Hey, its still Christmas
I was stunned today when friends mentioned they had already taken their Christmas decorations down. You see, here in Spain, Christmas is still in full swing.
Sure Christmas Eve is a big family event and children will receive a token present from Santa on Christmas Day but the really big event is yet to come here! This is the Feast of the Epiphany when the Three Kings arrived in Bethlehem (apparently). For children in Spain (and childish adults) this is the most important day of the year when they wake up to find that Los Reyes Magos (the Three Kings) have left gifts for them in their house.
Its also the day we traditionally eat the most wonderful food ever known – Roscon de Reyes, filled with Nata (Cream), Natilla (custard) or Trufa (a rich chocolate cream).
This year I am having Roscon de Reyes in place of my birthday cake on the 5th. Yum!
Its Christmas!
I now know its Christmas because I have Roscon de Reyes filled with crema de trufa. Yum!
OK, so traditionally its not served until the night before or morning of “Reyes” or Epiphany, January 6th. I intend having this creamy delight now and purchasing another for the eve of January 5th – not only to partake in this delightful tradition but also to serve as my Birthday cake! This is soooo much better than cake, trust me!

The Best Laid Plans…
For the first time in years our Christmas was well planned in advance. Sadly it was a little too reliant on internet orders coming from the UK. The adverse weather there means that most of our Christmas gifts and supplies will not arrive until after Christmas.
Orders from amazon – some of which were despatched at the beginning of the month have not changed their status and are no closer to us. An order we were assured during the order process would arrive before Christmas now wont arrive until December 30th. Amazon never gave us the option to cancel which seems a little bit of a shame, especially knowing the problems we have had with both them and their choice of courier here in Spain (MRW)
Bits and pieces from other places have not been despatched until the last minute and, as such, they wont arrive either.
Just our luck.
A little disapointed.
Christmas Tree!
I didn´t want to punish you with boring images of my Christmas Tree.
I wanted to do it with really poor video instead. Hey, give me a break, its been the first time we´ve had a Christmas tree since… oh dear, has it really been THAT long?
Actually, this post is for my own benefit. A record of our first reasonably happy Christmas in around ten years.
It has now been duly jinxed. I await the wrath of our Guardian Devil.
