SatScenes: Nerja Cannon

Apologies for the lack of updates of late – my schedule is hectic. Not only do I currently have quite a few jobs on at present but my exercise regime is really busy too. In between walking, interval training and swimming all I seem to do is work! But I am hoping for a payoff come August when I intend to take the month off to celebrate my (hopefully) greatly reduced moi :)

SatScenes: The final pieces of my Roscon de Reyes

I find Roscon de Reyes irrestible at this time of year – if anything is likely to lead me off the path to weight loss its this Spanish delight! (most especially when filled with nata or crema de trufa). Since my birthday lands on the 5th of the month I generally have a Roscon instead of a birthday cake I love it so much – filled with crema de trufa and nata because I´m greedy!

We ate the final pieces of our Roscon on Saturday for breakfast (shaming I know) and then the staff of Cafeteria Jamaica made it worse by ignoring my denial of a dessert by bringing me a free slice – oh, how I love those guys!

SatScenes: New Years Eve

New Years Eve was spent on the Balcon de Europa in Nerja. It was a fun night with lots of champagne but a lower key affair than previous years owing to the cutbacks. Still everyone seemed to be having fun.

At this point we were on the 30 minute countdown to New Year :)

Happy New Year!

SatScenes: Tronco de Navidad

Our “Tronco de Navidad”, our pudding for today. Its filled with a personal favourite of mine – crema de trufa. Yum!

SatScenes: Christmas Lights on the Balcon de Europa

More Christmas lights have appeared in the main public areas in Nerja. These are the beautiful lights on the Balcon de Europa.

SatScenes: Christmas Decorations of Nerja

The christmas decorations have been cut back this year owing to the present financial climate. There are fewer than previous years and, apparently, the ayuntamiento are hoping that individual store holders pull their fingers out to make their own stores look extra special this year to make up for the reduced street decorations. The roundabouts have had a makeover this last day though – a lovely snowman decorates a large roundabout coming into Nerja!

SatScenes: Out to sea…

A morning walk along the coastline.  Several small fishing boats were nearby and, further out to sea, a large cruise liner could be seen on the horizon.

SatScenes: Iglesia del Salvador, Nerja

One of my favourite places to hang out in Nerja and enjoy a light breakfast is the Balcon de Europa. Although not religious one of the focal points for me, other than the balcon itself of course, is the beautiful Iglesia del Salvador.

This is where I spent my morning – sat in a small cafe overlooking the Balcon de Europa and the Iglesia del Salvador

Toad Walk…

Nerja has had a fair amount of rain over the last day or so which, for me, is wonderful. The explosion of wildlife up by the river adds a fascinating touch to my morning walk. Finally after many attempts I have managed to get a Toad to stand still long enough to be photographed. She, and I am presuming its a she by her size etc, was a little nervous in the presense of my obnoxious little Jack Russell Terrier.

I must be the only resident of Nerja who is delighted when its rains…
