Dear Twilight Fans…

I needed less clutter…

So I redesigned.

I´m still working on it. I know it is dreadful faux pas to go live before its strictly finished. Shoot me.

There are some design bits n bobs (yes, that is the technical term)  you won´t see if you are using IE. I feel dreadful about that. Really. Honest.

A few glitches still to iron out but essentially the bat girl is taking a vacation, the social media icons are retired and I´ve surrendered disqus comments.

Those familiar with the framework will recognise the hallmarks of the Genesis Framework. I love it. If it were a Guy I´d marry it and have its babies. Thats a big deal from someone who treats commitment like a contagious disease afflicted to everyone but herself and has the maternal instincts of a turtle…

Reflections in Sepia

From my experiments with Photoshop. Actually the only real reason I like this one is because my reflection (window) shows up more. Hey, what the hell, I had fun.

This image was taken at an abandoned one storey house in the centre of Vélez-Málaga.

Satscenes: Canadian Pancakes with Miel de Caña

Awoke by Mum calling “Are you awake?” through my door this morning. After a mumbled interaction she suggested we have pancakes. The mere thought caused me to leap out of bed so fast I stumbled and hit my glass wardrobe door.

Pancakes! Canadian, not American pancakes this time, just for erm… a minor change. Plus we wanted to experiment to see if there really was a difference :p

Macaroni Cheese Omelette with Jamon Serrano

Look what I cooked today!

Incidentally if you want the recipe for this no-calorie omelette (cough) visit my recipe blog

Diet? What Diet? American Pancakes!

Its Sunday. I am still feeling completely washed up.

So there can be no better way than to start the day with a lovely comforting breakfast right? American pancakes with Fresh Strawberries and a generous drizzle of Miel de Caña.

It was scrummy.

Ten years of Blogging

Today is this blogs tenth anniversary. That´s right – ten WHOLE years.

That must be the longest period I have ever committed to anything except procrastination and chocolate.

I was made a very interesting proposition today which could, potentially, mark a very BIG move. More details in due course.

For elongated gibberings on this milestone have a read of my 9 year blogging anniversary post.

North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell

When her father leaves the Church, Margaret Hale is uprooted from her comfortable home in Hampshire to move with her family to the North of England. Initially repulsed by the ugliness of her new surroundings in the industrial town of Milton, Margaret becomes aware of the poverty and suffering of local mill workers and develops a passionate sense of social justice.

North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell is one of my favourite classics.  It is, in essentials, a social narrative about industrialization with Milton-Northern being the main focus (based upon Manchester).  Its principal characters are well defined and, for me, highly interesting. The haughty Margaret Hale and the proud industrialist John Thornton come together in the most charming and believeable way. Each are strong willed which means the course of the relationship hits more than a few hurdles along the way – but, more important for me, is the degree to which each of these two people influence  the other – changing their beliefs, values and ultimately the course of their lives as a result.

It is a romance for those who, on principle, tend to avoid them. Far from “just a romance”  it has a strong agenda with a storyline touching on the themes of industrialisation, religion, politics and the changing position of women in marriage.

I enjoy the writing style of Elizabeth Gaskell but do appreciate that this novel on occasions suffers a little as a result of its serialisation (provided in chapters in Charles Dickens´s periodical `Household Words’ between 1854 – 1855). It does not detract from its readibility or its story – a character here or there is a little under-utilised perhaps.

The highlight of the book was the ending. Beautifully understated and very true to these proud and strong willed individuals.

Christmas Tree!

I didn´t want to punish you with boring images of my Christmas Tree.

I wanted to do it with really poor video instead. Hey, give me a break, its been the first time we´ve had a Christmas tree since… oh dear, has it really been THAT long?

Actually, this post is for my own benefit. A record of our first reasonably happy Christmas in around ten years.

It has now been duly jinxed. I await the wrath of our Guardian Devil.
